if the guy wants to swap his axles he wants to swap his axles. its his choice. i've seen guys try to go up ingrid's revenge down at superlift and snap D30 chromoly axles like they were toothpicks. but i've seen guys go up the same trail with stock D44 axles and make it fine. i'm not sayin that you have to do it. but a beefier axle is always going to hold up better. besides...i just picked up my D44 front axle for $70 today. i've got a welder and plenty of skills so doing the swap isn't much for me. its going to take a good bit of patience but it can be done and it'll be much more reliable then a D30

Where are you located? I might have access to a 44/9" out of a '79 Bronco with steel wheels and some worn 33's. Only worth it if your close though probably.
How much??? I'm in Ohio and may be interested if I can see pics and the price is right.

I believe those were sold, but my buddy has a set for sale. Trussed, 5.13's, etc. Here is the link to them. If you or anyone doesn't want to sign up over there, I can give you his info.

i know this is a older thread but research the ford 9in rear end... there are several different models.... dont just go out and buy one... you can get one for like $150 at a junk yard cause there a dime a dozen... there are specific models that are actually worth a dang... some from a junk yard will run you a grand... just cause its a 9in dont mean nothin... i think the better ones have a cast of a C or a S on them or something like that... come with a locker already (most 9in DO NOT)... some are 29 spline and some are 31... theres tons of research and i read it all at one point before i realized they just aint worth it... there also one of the most expensive axles to build aka lockers... gears... waayyyy over rated...

So what is with the bad rap on a low pinion D44? A high pinion can be preferable, but certainly not required. What do you suppose everyone did before high pinions came along, and after they discontinued the high pinion D30?

If you really want an issue, Some of these axles had 19 spline axle shafts. These splines are not as strong as the rolled splines of the 29 spline shafts.

The HP front axle is stronger than the low pinion, provides slightly better clearance under the yoke, and allows for better driveshaft angles without affecting caster.

High pinion whenever possible.

My $.02

Sorry for bringing up a old post.

You sir are a idiot.

First off any one who pays a $1000 for a junkyard 9" is completely retarded and should not be building anything to begin with.

There are 3 cases, Standard, War, and Nodular with a N cast into it.

There is no such thing as a 29 spline 9". 28 or 31 from the factory.

Also big bearing vs small bearing.

Also most N cases do not have a Trac-Loc. (Posi)

Locker prices are you serious? 9" ARB $730. Dana 30 $730.

Do a little research on them you will find lots of information.

I do not think that they are over rated, I am running 37's on mine not one problem.

Ill i was saying was do the research before you just go out and buy any 9in... and like i said i did but it was awhile back and dont remember every detail to make u so happy... and decided theres much better axles then a 9in to choose from... unless you could come across the right 9in for the right price... if you were as smart as the way you like to make yourself feel then you would no that JY prices are different all over the US... actually thats just common sense... but my suggestions to you is to go back from where you came from... you could have just inserted your information to help out future readers and dropped the BS... your kind of unnecessary attitude isnt welcome here... Pirate4x4 may take you...

Pirate4x4 =

I was just posting some actual tech for future reference.

Not like the rest of the posts on this site.

"How @@@@ would it be if I cut off my Cat/Muffler, Spray Paint and add a spacer lift to my XJ?"

That's rather harsch. Yes there are frivoulous posts here, not unlike any other forum on the web.

Avoid those that you aren't interested in, post in the ones that you are.

Yes Pirate has a tremendous amount of tech but for some the attitude of some of the people over there makes it a place to avoid at all costs.
