Same gear and you're fine. Replace the gears in the HP, it'll be better than dealing with an LP.

if the gears are the same ratio you dont have to change anything, I'm just saying go for the HP to save yourself some aggravation later and just regear a HP D30 laying around.

Why are you looking for an new front axle?
Is your current one damaged? Bearings? Ring and Pinion?
If it's bearings or ring and pinion, they can be repaired easy enough that you won't be driving all over looking for a replacement axle.

If it's damaged, how? bent? torn control arm mounts?
Those are repairable too.
It's just a cost versus benefit thing you have to work out.
Remember all that time and gas spent looking for a replacement has a cost too.

Excellent point, none of us have really asked WHY you're looking for a new stock front axle.

Well when i bought it the kid who had it before me tried to "drift" with it during last winter and ripped the mounts for the upper control arms off and the passenger side lca, snapped off the sway bar at the mount and the stearing stabilizer and bent the coil/shock mounts to complete hell to the point that there collapsing, im looking for a new axle because itll cost the same amount as getting this one fixed and itll be quicker then getting new mounts and paying someone to weld them on, that and i dont know if theres anything internally damaged to it as well.

Well what would i need to regear other then a gear kit? I dont have alot of cash and a new axle seems like the fastest way to fix this thing without complications.

Well there is your cost versus benifit analysis.
Good luck on your search!

Case of beer and the metal parts and you'll be good to go with a buddy to fix that.

If thats not possible, find an HP D30, honestly I wouldnt even look at a LP after making the switch from YJ to XJ.

Keep the shafts and gears out of your current front end. Find someone near by to tell you if they are in good enough shape to put into the new housing, then get a rebuild kit. its just a bunch of little odds and ends.

wow thats some damage.

anyways, you need to know what your doing to regear an axle. so, unless you have a friend that will help you thats done it before, you are going to spend a lot of money. just get the low pinion axle.

I have a friend but we really dont have the required materials to fix the axle. And id like to get this thing on the road before the winter hits, i need it ouf the garage asap and ive never touched an axle before this so i dont think id be able to rebuild it, if i could find a HP axle id have it by now believe me

Yep....and thats why you dont show off if you dont know how to drive...causes some hell for someone else if you decide to sell your problems instead of dealing with them.
