front axle swap help
ok just picked up a 76 scout ll. it has dana 44 front and rear. i have a 1994 cherokee all stock and i wanna swap those axles in. but the 44 is a passanger side drop and my cherokee is a driver side drop so is there an adapter i can buy to mount the scouts t-case to my tranny and i dont even no what kind of t-case is in the scout. any help would be greatly appericiated

even if there is an adapter you will have to cut out the passenger floor out for the t case to not hang down then you will have to make new seat brackets make and route your exhaust on the driver side then have to worry about the fuel lines getting hot. i don't think its worth it hit the junkyard for a wrangler dana 44 front end its just about the same mounting as a cherokee

The only wrangler front 44 came in a Rubicon and isn't really any stronger than the Dana 30 he has since it has 30 tubes and outers. The scout has a Dana 18 or 20 t-case. The 20 is simular to a Dana 300 but with less aftermarket support and a bit weaker. You can get an Atlas or a Dana 300 and flip it which will be expensive but you could clock it so the floor wouldn't be an issue but you would have to reroute the exhaust. You can get a waggy front 44 and use the outers from the scout so you have the same bolt pattern but keep in mind the scout axles are 3" narrower than XJ axles.
