Default front axle seal

i have a 97 cherokee. i replaced the seal where the drive shaft connects to the front axle. pinion shaft i believe it is called. with a napa seal that still leaked. got a dealer one that was a better seal. checked things out such as movement and roughness on where the shaft is in the seal. all seemed well. it has been less than a year and it is weeping through it again. about a dime size puddle while sitting overnight. was wondering if maybe the gear lube is thinned out and needs changing or a better type seal. the rear one is fine. i hate leaks. thanks.

If the pinion yoke is grooved, it may be destroying the new seals. You may need to change the yoke.

looks and feels fine from what i can tell. may just have to live with it until springtime. get one from the junk yard. first, may change out the lube in it for a laugh. i did that when my steering box started the same kinda leak. it stopped it. thanks

Possibly a worn or out of balance front drive shaft?

any slop in the pinion itself?

are you putting a bead of grease on the seal inner lip?

maybe a little smear of Right Stuff on the outside lip

Maybe check that the vent is open. Goes from axle to firewall, just right of brake booster, little white cap on it.
