Need more info Bigjohn4x4 lol.

What year jeep is it.
Automatic or standard.
Or if you know the gear ratio.

Pretty much you can put in another d30. Jus match your gears to your rear.

As far as I know the only two axles that are a direct bolt in to a xj is a Dana 30 or the dana 44 from an xj, mj or tj

For the rear the only ones that are direct bolt in are Dana 35, Dana 44, AMC 20, and the chry. 8.25 from either a xj or tj. The amc 20 isn't a direct bolt in since it came from a mj it is an under axle setup and the spring perches have to be moved.

alright thanks man, if i do the d44 i have to buy different brackets huh? im on a tight budget like a u-pull it budget haha. i deffently need a stronger axle then a 30, so do you think i should just buy the brackets for the 44 or is there a cheaper way to go to get me by for now?

If you get the front axle out of another XJ you wont have to do anything but maybe some ujoints. I just looked at your setup and if you can swing it pick-up a better rear axle also. The Dana 35 is a weak axle. But the Dana 30 is a Dependable axle for your set-up just may want to get a lower gear ratio front and rear.

the only bolt in front axle for the xj is a dana 30 or rubicon d44.

amc 20 didn't come in an mj either. same axles as an xj.

the 20 only came in the cj. and it's not bolt in.

big john, what exactly is wrong with your front axle? is it a vac disconnect axle?
on a tight budget, the only thing you're gonna get cheap is a d30 and maybe an xj44 or 8.25. anything else will require some modification to fit.

the d30 is a lot stronger than you might think. get a high pinion non disconnect d30. weld a truss to it if your jumping it or something. mine sees some air now and then, and i have no truss yet. have not had any problem with it so far.

FYI ... the 84-86 MJ *did* have an optional AMC 20 rear.

The AMC 20 came on some MJ's with the metric ton package if you dont belivive me try doing a little research or Pming Jeepcomj and ask him. You can also get an xj front dana 44.

Yah, from South America. No US or Cdn model ever had one.

x2 on the mj having tha amc 20

replacing the d30 in a cherokee for cheap is impossible (by my definition of cheap). It is pretty strong, i'd just keep it.

rubicon d44 is bolt in, but i havent found on for under 2000 used yet, can be built much cheaper, still more money to spend on something that hasn't failed me yet.

Have a d27 (predesesor) in my cj2a with 5.38s haven't broken it
have a d30 in my cj5 which is low pinion and weaker 2.73s, haven't broken it.
have a d30 hp in my last three cherokees 2x 4.10 and 1x3.55 and haven't broken one, currently 4.10 and locked

all my jeeps are on 31's, none of them had vac disconnects.

have broken a dana 35 and a d41(2a rear). I would worry more about the d35 in the back

Correction on the Rear Axle bolt on. A rear axle from a TJ isn't not direct bolt on. TJ is coil spring, XJ is leaf spring. (Unless Grand Cherokee) I'm doing this conversion myself.

Looks like a D44 with two upgrade that are visible. Vent tube was moved, and the Shock mounts have skid plates welded to them. Not to mention what looks like new upper control arm bushings.
