front axle on my 2000 sport
so i think my front axle wont disengage. it always feels like im in 4wd if i make sharp turns. i thought when it is out of 4wd you should be able to spin the drive shaft. let me know if im wrong cause all my ball joints and stuff are good. it also just shake a little if you go into a turn and then go straight it will vibrate a lilttle bit any ideas?
Yeah he is correct there is no disconnect for the front only the tcase if you are still feeling like it is in 4wd then it could be that the shifter linkage is bad like said and not coming out of 4wd. Do you have a tcase drop on the jeep.
another thing too, if you have the selec-trac t-case, if its still in 4wd when you put it in 2wd, you may need to put her in reverse and back up a few feet, and itll disengage....
i had a 98 grand with that t-case, and i had to do that every time i put it back in 2wd..but it always worked

nope there is no locker. and no it doesnt have the select a trac. i know its not in 4wd i just took it to my barn and had in 2wd and front tires wernt spinin till put it in 4wd so its not a problem of getting it disengaged. what else could make it shake the steering wheel. ball joints and tie rods are good

could be a wheel bearing then if its not the u-joints, or anything...
lift up the front end with a jack and see if you can wobble either front tire while hold the top with one hand, and the bottom with the other, and start wobbling it...if there is no play in either wheel, its not a wheel bearing....if the wheel wobbles that you've got a wheel bearing going bad

even if its something just as simple as a tire being off balance, that could make the steering wheel shake...look at ur front wheels and see of they still have all their weights...one could have flown off a wheel, causing it to shake like that...

well somthin ive see problems with is the vacum motor that slides a coller on both shafts towrads the pasenger side their is a arm in their that slides this coller ive seen them pop off but ive never looked at a 2000 mines a 96cause that would leave ur axle locked together but ur t-case is in 2wd but the axle is split at the pasenger side u will need like a 11mm its 4 bolts its so simple once u open it u will see anyone can fix it
