Default Freeze Plug

I just found out today I have a tiny hole in my freeze plug that is on the back of the block at the head. Would I be able to reach the plug to clean it and use JB weld? Which type of jb weld do I need?

I suppose it's worth a try, but I'm not optimistic about success.

If you are going to do this, drain enough coolant that the freeze plug is dry, or the JB Weld is not going to adhere. Clean things as well as you can. Use a wire brush or sandpaper, and I'd follow up with a good shot of brake cleaner. I would use the Steel Stik, and press it in place. Give it the FULL curing time the directions state.

And after all that, you may buy yourself a bit of time, but that's all. The reason you have a hole is that the freeze plug is rusting out. That pinhole is just the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for the information. This by far is not a fix it is just to keep coolant from leaking out as soon as I put it in and take it to a shop to fix the freeze plug.

Would the hole the freeze plug allow all the coolant to come out in the matter of a few hours?

It appears that the JB weld worked to stop the leak from the pinhole in the freeze plug. Will be getting these all replace very soon. Already placed the order for new brass freeze plugs.

Almost all, yes. Sounds like you are on the right track.

Pull the head off and install new freeze plug and then while you are at it replace the freeze plugs along the side of the block. Then there is only the one behind the flywheel left. I just did this about a month ago on my 98.
