I'm planning to rebuild my 2001 XJ from the frame up.
Does anyone have a "macro" procedure for this? I'm not looking for details (for example like how to install a cooling system), but more about what order each system should be built onto the car (for example: suspension, then engine, then cooling system, then emissions system, etc)
Any advice or links are much appreciated.

I would suggest starting with the drive line first. Big benefit to this is a lower vehicle is easier to work on. Get it up and running then move to the suspension lift. Engine then cooling system then electronics then lift is how I would go.

I would start with your engine. Me not knowing your history with this Jeep it would be the first cause of concern for me, mainly because that particular year have a tendency to have cracked heads- and before someone jumps down my throat about how they all don't crack, I agree. They don't all crack, but I have sure read a hell of a lot about the ones that do. A problem with the engine, and it could get very costly to repair, and it's the heart of your vehicle so you want it to be running the best it can. And this starting point is assuming that the body isn't a rust bucket (because if it is, it might only be good as a trail vehicle).
After the engine, give the rest of the drive line a once over- change fluids and seals, bearing and universial joints, and obviously overhaul/upgrade the brakes.
Once that's out of the way then consider suspension/tires/wheels.
After that then replace weather stripping and electrical (lights and switches)
And after all that then start on the cosmetics and creature comforts.

That's not much information, is it a complete POS? Do you plan to strip everything and put it on a rotisserie?
