Frame stiffiners
huh... i've jacked mine up many times and never had that happen.... from all angles too.....
i'll agree that if your doing some serious upgrading and hard offroading then yea... all contact points (conrol arm mounts, bumpers, rockers, shock locations) could use reinforcment but i haven't seen the need to reinforce nearly the whole frame rail.. though i wouldn't agree with not doing that either...
i guess it could all depend on the elements your chosing to wheel on.... rocks and hard jagged surfaces well then hell yes you need some reinforcment... but like mud and wilderness trails... no soo much

I'm going to end this discussion because its completely off topic.
for Frame stiffeners I'd recommend at least 1/8th inch, but 3/16ths would be a better choice
If you plan on going that big... Iwould plate the inside and outside of the frame with 1/4. I would also dimple die it so you could increase your weld surface.
Also do you have any idea how much Rockwells cost to run?
Yes I know what rockwells cost and such, i've been watching many 2.5 ton-20 ton planatary builds and have been wanting to put 5 ton's under my gmc, I understand the cost, but 2.5 will not be for a few years down the road. Right now just going with D60's front/rear
i agree that they flex but i have seen many of my fellow jeepers around me... and all over the internet jumps these things high and far and had no frame issues what so ever...... sure after some rust and ageing they can fracture but out of the 9 jeeps i've owned.... only one eventually had a braked frame (because of a lot of rust) and i've been wheeling for 3 years now and i've maxed my suspension out plenty of times and never had an issue at all with my frame.... so are you soooooooooooo sure you really know what your talking about??
frame stiffeners don't do much to stiffen the frame (imo), my last jeep was plated from the 1/4" front crossmember to the rear leaf hanger, and i still had cracks at the base of the a pillar, tranny hump, driveshaft hump, b pillar and d pillar corners as well as the floor all around my leaf hangers and into the wheel wells.
what they do is provide (imo) a nice place to secure suspension mounts, crossmembers, cages, traction bars and what have you not, and will resist crushing when you land hard on rocks.

i think you both make good points but arnt really hearing what each other has to say. and in my opinion the "frame" on these jeeps does need some rienforcement, but not the entire frame, before i had heard that these frames have breaking tendancys i used to take my jeep out flex it slam it into rocks, u name it. and i still dont see any noticeable bends or cracks?

the most common places i have seen are at the base of the a pillars under the fenders, around where the rear bumper mounts, the driveshaft hump, leaf hangers, and top of the d pillars. around the steering box/trackbar is also a weak spot, but that more has to do with the stresses the steering puts on it.

I found this a while back:
http://www.rocdogfab.com/index.php?p...mart&Itemid=59
And was considering getting these frame stiffeners for my XJ at some point
Full length frame stiffeners, cut from 3/16" steel, and a special plate to reinforce the unibody behind the steering box.
$250 doesnt sound like a bad price either, if you got a welder of your own!
