found myself an original 87 xj d44 at jy today...
so i was down at the junk yard picking up a radiator due to overheating problems and i just can't help but pop my head under every xj i see on the chance that there may be something worth picking up, and today i just so happened to see a original dana 44 on an 87 xj . i immediately thought
to myself "this is going to be a long day" .unfortunately somebody had already tinkered with it and destroyed the brakes and drums, i took it anyways, at $130 i couldn't leave it there. my question is, will my d35 drums and brakes (89 xj) be compatible with the d44? i believe they are both 10" systems due to them being pre-90, and will any additional fab be needed? i know the housing is 1" longer than my d35 but i have a 4.5" lift that should eliminate that issue. any suggestions / necessary modifications? ( will pressure wash, prime and paint it tomorrow )

Idk to much but ill try to help and throw my two sense in here. But I do know that xtreme 4x4 just did an excerpt on there cheap jeep/weekend wheeler. They did a d44 rear with an abr airlocker with a true open rear and chromoly axle shafts and explain every step. They do everything from mounts and how it goes up but they keep it cheep for ya to. Hope this helps.

your dana 35 brakes will NOT work. the flanges are different so the backing plate simply won't fit. sounds to me like you have a perfect excuse to do a disc brake swap.
