Default Ford 8.8 spool

In the future i will be installing a 8.8 with a spool. I don't have a trailer for the rig and it won't be a DD, but will be running 35" tires. The question is will this be too much stress on the axles on the streets being very careful when making turns?

Yeah it'll sound like a dog is stuck under you rig and your gonna wear your tires a lot more just getting to the trail, than actually on it. Spools are great for dirt, suck on pavement. Thought about a selectable locker?

From what I've heard, the carrier is the weak link in Ford 8.8's, and with an aussie, your gonna still use it.

The carrier might be a weak link in a 8.8 but they arent THAT weak, its still a stronger axle in every respect than either of the stock cherokee rear ends.

Aussie should be fine.

I've never ran a spool or a welded rear but they supposedly go through tires about 1/3 faster. You wont break anything on the street though unless you really try.

Only axle i've ever heard of breaking under street use is a D35, even that's rare.

Thanks for info. I already have the spool so I may have to try it when I make the swap and see what happens.

My thing is lincoln lock it instead of installing a spool. Same thing, you just save the coin.

A lot cheaper to weld an 8.8 because to run a spool you need a c-clip eliminator kit as well as the spool and for that cost you could buy a selectable locker.

The spool cost me about 160.00 and the c-clip eliminator will cost +- 150.00. I don't know what a cheep selectable locker cost ?. I only know that arb,ox and etc. are some $$$$.

i have the same set up ford 8.8 with spool on 35s and the corners of my spool blocks snaped of 2 days ago. just try to limit hoping when making sarp turn and it will last you a long time befor doing this. i got about 10000 mile on this one befor it blow up on me. (street and trail) plusif you look in the right place you can get a spook on the cheap like 70 bucks. down fall is tires get eatin up fast just like all the guys are sayin, go selectable if you can.
