Forced Air Intake?
Wish I'd taken pics before, will have pics of the finished job 2morrow.
When I was doing the tuneup on my '96 XJ I noticed a plastic plate plugging a rectangular hole in the header panel ... made me think of the opening in the air cleaner box. Hmmm,,, a little PB Blaster and the screws turned out backwards with pliers. Hole is next to radiator opening, a little bigger than the one in the air cleaner box, 4" in front of the box. Used cardboard with aluminum tape to make a tube to go between hole and box, smoother than a flex line. I'm gonna run this for a little while to see if it works as a forced air system.
So far, less engine noise, no change in driveability.
Has anyone else tried this? What did you think of your results?

I think he means "ram air induction" not, forced induction. ;]
Kudos on the thought process. I've been fiddling in that same area all week and it certainly didn't occur to me.

Ram air
I stand corrected; ram air induction.
I've probably got to install some software to shrink my pics to usable size; dpi is too high. When I get it figured out I'll post them.
I wish I'd taken a better look at the header panel end of the ram air in my 93 Dakota, to see what obstructions were forward of the hole. Part of the headlight and some wiring harness is there, but I believe that once the area above and below the opening are accounted for, there's not any constriction.
Right now probably isn't the best time to run a test, with the fresh tuneup and the kickdown cable adjustment done.
I'm still interested in results others may have had, or if you're going to try this.
