Pulled from a yard a while ago, don't recall year. Are they year specific? The dealer wants $150 to flash and does not guarantee. Do I have other options ? Apparently they don't like to swim ....

 

The later ones, 96+ are picky about getting the correct year. Is this from the same year as your XJ? If so try it- might work fine with nothing further done.

 

Just agreeing with Radi from what I've read. Sitting with no power should wipe it's memory. No more swimming.

 

Last week I installed a 97 unit into my 98 XJ, run fine.

The 97 had been sitting many months with a dead battery....

The 98 has always been trouble free, I was just seeing if the swithing

was possible.

 

That PCM won't work for your 2001, it's for a 1998 XJ. You need part number 56041 801AA. The '98 PCM won't have the three ignition coil drivers you need, nor will it manage the Califorinia emission requirements you have (4 O2S's).

 

thanks guys, took apart mine last night and cleaned and resealed. Seems to be doing better already, had mud caked on all the connectors...
