Regarding searches, that is.
After searching many different ways I'm surprised to find no straightforward answer to this one.
Changed my o2 sensors and want to know how to reset my CEL/check engine light.
I tried every version of reset / CEL / cel / check engine light all to no avail except for long threads with no direct answer.
So - is it simple?
and
Any tips on why I couldn't find what I would think would be a commonly referred to procedure?
Regards, Todd.

Mabey the o2 sensor wasnt your only problem. Have it scanned with a real scanner and not that POS that advance lets you use. If you have no other codes have the CEL reset during the scan.

Disconnecting the battery on a OBDII vehicle will not always reset the check engine light. Why did you replace the O2 sensors for in the first place?

No harm in doing both. Turning on the headlights would effectively "short" that as well. Personally I don't know that all the cap's will drain in a few seconds. If I had one and wanted to do that, I would go overnight.
The price is right!

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en If I were searching here I'd put "cherokeeforum" in the "with these words" box.

Ha Ha...so true. Not long ago Bam Bam had a problem with Pebbles, (In his rotor.) Somehow Flintstone "stuck" back in the early 80's. Not great for dating...maybe a mixed blessing.

this pertaing to OBDll and my exp.
on my 99 i tried the crossing of cables, only to find out that the code was still stored.
the cappys won't discharge that fast. so you have 2 ways only of doing this successfully.
1- leave the bat uhooked all night.
2- clear the codes with scanner.
option 2 is obviously the better choice, #1 will work too.
btw i hope you used a mopar o2 sensor. if not, and you got it from the parts store, it will burn up fast.
the sensing probe on non-oem stlye o2s is to long and doesn't leave enough room inside the down pipe to sence A/F ratios.
Hence burning up the o2s heating element.
Fact.
I went through 2 non oe sensors before i got an oem one and compared them.
