First Post turn signals only work while brake is pressed.
Hello from North Alabama. Just bought my first Jeep. 1998 Cherokee Sport. There is a 10 year old thread here with the same problem I have but no answers. My turn signals only work while the brake pedal is pressed, the a/c blower doesn’t work on any speed, and the airbag light is on. A few people reported having this problem, but nobody ever said if they figured it out. I replaced the multifunction switch, but it made no difference. If anyone has experienced this, please let me know. Thanks. This may or may not be related, but the cruise light doesn’t come on (cruise doesn’t work) , only the right passenger window rolls down from the driver door (no other windows work), and the abs light is on.
So I decided I’d start diagnosing the a/c blower motor. After finding I didn’t have power on number 25 fuse in the fuse block at the passenger footwell, I started studying the wiring schematic and saw the blue wire with white stripe (db/wt) gets power from the shift lock solenoid. I turned the key on and could shift out of park without applying the brake. So I started wiggling the shifter and key switch while holding the brake and the blower motor came on. So now I can crank the vehicle and wiggle the key switch and the blower comes on, the abs light and airbag light go off, and the blinkers work correctly. So I’m not sure if the problem is in the key switch, brake pedal, or shift lock, but I can wiggle the ignition switch and solve my problems. I pulled the driver door panel off and wiggled the wires in the switch panel for the windows and now they’re working.
i know this is an old thread, hoping your still active on here. im having the same or similar issue so wondering if you narrowed it down to something specific? This is what ive discovered so far. Checked all my grounds and they were good ran a hot wire directly to my blower motor and it fired right up. back to the drawing board i went. looking at electrical schematics i found theres a red black wire that goes from the ignition switch to the junction box that controls blower fuse, rear defog, rear wi[er and the airbag module. All of which went out at the same time. (minus the blinkers but i still believe they are related.) i attached the schematic showing this. i have all the electrical schematics for my 1999 i believe theyre the same til 01. i can send them to you if youd like. i am working for the rest of the week but i will start at the ignition switch on saturday and trace that wire to see what i can see. Also if youve already solved this issue. Please for the love of god update me on this thread
