Post first car/first jeep, questions

hello, i just received a 94 jeep cherokee sport from my grandpa. I was told it has 350k kms, and to not drive offroad, and itll last another good 100k, and ive been told by my moms friend to not go offroading in it or else i'll **** up the transfer case in it... im not too sure what to think of this because my dads friend says i oughtta be able to offroad in it no problem... i believe i have a command-trac transfer case in a 4x4 automatic. i thought i would ask you guys what to do about this, i want to be able to go do some light offroading, mainly logging roads/dirt roads/whatever. Am I really going to screw up the transfer case if i do offroad in it? I dont think im even gonna be using 4wd, most likely only 2wd... My jeep is completely stock, btw, and has the I6 high output engine,
also, i leak or burn a bit of oil, any ideas where the problem may be?
this is my first car, im 17 years old, so it'd be appreciated if you answered with words i'll understand haha, or at least explain.

Thanks!

Mild offroading will not damage or destroy your transfer case as long as you are properly shifting in and out of 4wd. If you have the owners manual just follow what it says.

when you post a reply up by the smiley face there is a paperclip that says atatchments, thats where you put pics. As far as the t case goes, make sure your fluid level is good, use ATF. Besides that it will be fine as long as you aint jumping it or anything

and your oil leak, check you oil filter adapter, rear main, and valve cover, most common places for leaks on the 4.0

As far as the offroad part of your question, in no way shape or form will off-roading mess up your transfer case. It's built to put up with abuse like that, as long as it has fluid on it. As far as the oil loss, what's the tip of your exhaust look like on the inside? If it smells like burnt oil, then you have oil getting past your piston rings or a blown head gasket or a cracked head.

The pics are either attachments or copy paste.

Some recent work I did to move my lights off of the frame and to add an actual mounting place for my plate.

k, thats just what i wanted to hear, and also figured out the picture thing, as for the oil, my dad said he could smell it not from the exhaust, but mostlikely it leaking outta the engine, falling and buring on maybe the exhaust pipe. Also, ive got a fairly large hole in my exhaust pipe, about 4 or 5 inches from the exhaust tip, and about 2 or 3 inches in length and 1, maybe 2 in width, its all rusted as hell too, should i bother trying to patch it up? or does it not matter?

k cool, theres a few minor problems with it, but i should have em all fixed up on the weekend.. my dads friend also said i should get a lift kit on it because my tires rub slightly when i turn too sharply, he suggested somewhere around 4 inches, any ideas how much itll cost for one that isnt complete garbage? also, im planning on gettin a bushbumper on it, im thinking of maybe making my own in metalshop at school or something, or would it be better to just buy one?

contact Chrysler and get your build sheet, (its free) then you will know how it was built in the factory. (Command Trac, Select Trac, etc. ) you will need the VIN number.

Exhaust needs replaced, not patched

take care of any engine problems you have first. even before lift or anything else. seriously
the older jeeps have a poor cooling system

yes of course haha, the only problems with it that i know of is the oil problem, and the spark plug wires need replacing (ones a bit loose, one sparks off and onto the engine)
