Talking A few problems with my 95 XJ trying to get sorted before other things break...

I've been having these problems for a while but I wanted to get these fixed before something else happens so I can take my rig out and have fun breaking other things

- my heater sucks.. when I put it on vent barely any warm air comes out unless on for 20 mins and heat setting only blows out passenger side.. used to work fine but now its not.. any advice on that?

- when I use the defroster my belt squeaks and I lost voltage on my gauge..

- steering wheel and whole vehicle shakes when idling and losing rpms but not stalling out.. just replaced wires and plugs what else should I replace?

- NEED MOAR POWER... was crawling on my last wheeling trip and I need more power. any kind of performance upgrades I could look into that wont break the bank?

thanks... theres probably threads on this already but I'd probably like to ask follow up questions... I have minimal tools and little mechanical experience but can do small jobs.

Happy Jeepin.

Clean the IAC & throttle body, replace your serpentine belt or tighten it if its relatively new, get some 4 port injectors or run FI cleaner, and flush your coolant system / heater core.

try flushing your heater core

Was this just a once-off, or happens everytime?

Losing rpm's when driving, or only when idle?

Might want to do a compression test, that will give you an idea about the general condition of your engine. Performance upgrades make only small differences in XJ's to my knowledge...but there are many opinions on this
if you want positive, you can say all small bits might help.
I don't know about the service Hx, but things like good battery, cleaned grounds, tune-up, clean fluids, engine condition etc are worth checking first (like general maintenance issues) and might actually give you an improvement in overall 'performance' w/o spending too much on marginal aftermarket stuff (like throttlebody spacers etc)

Happens whenever defroster is engaged.

Idling, can't really tell if while driving.. I feel like I have to give it more gas to downshift at highway speeds though...

I'll do the test, always wanted to do it and see or I'll see if a shop near me will do it for me for nothing if they do something else for me.

Any recommendations on what kind of 4 port injectors and how easy are they to do on my own with little mechanical knowledge?

have the a/c compressor checked. when on defrost the comp will engage and if it's bad will drag engine down at low rpm. mine acted like that and after replacing the comp---back to normal. don't have a clue as to why the comp engages when on defrost.

Look up the fuel injector upgrade for Cherokees. I believe a 1995 4.0 will take the 703 injectors. I have the 99 which takes 784. I guess the connection point changed, but that's it. Some users on the vendor forums (scroll down to engines on the front page) sell them for $50-75 shipped. I haven't done mine yet but it looks pretty easy. A little more difficult than swapping spark plugs.
