I just used 5/16" grade 8 from the hardware store. 1.5" long, added some lock washers.

much appreciated. it appears at some point on my way into work I lost one of the 2 bolts (or it was never put on)that fastens the bottom of the shock. The other tab broke and the shock was thumping around. Also due to the fact it was pouring out this am, I couldnt get under there to check the size. I got the right size thanks to you, and it stopped raining. I'll quick fix it to get me home and bring my warranted shock back for replacement. If it dries out i'll take a spin in this and put the shock off till tomorrow!

Shiny!

Good luck! Hate it when I go to work on the Jeep and it starts raining. Really sucks without a garage

Earlier ones are usually 5/16"-18, later ones could be M8-1.25.

Watch out - the two screw threads are often confused! If you can't turn it into the hole four or five threads' worth with your fingers (assuming the threads are clean,) go to the other size. (If an SAE won't go in smoothly, go to ISO, and vice versa.)

Since you say you've only lost one screw, look at the head of the other one to see if it's SAE or ISO. If there are "hash marks" stamped on the head (it's probably SAE8, so you'll probably see six marks - one in each corner. If it's SAE5, you'll see three hash marks - alternate corners of the head) it's SAE (5/16"-18.) If there's a number stamped into the head (probably 10.9, could be 12.9,) then it's ISO - M8-1.25 thread.

If you would, please confirm the size, thread, and your application, so I can try to keep the list updated (yes, there's a list. www.kelleyswip.com/tech.html and follow the links...)

Thank you all, and I will look at it and respond some time this week as I will be doing the rear brakes and shocks and front stabilizer shock.
