I can verify the cover, my owner's manual has it listed and how it works. Basically you put the glass in and then tie it down along the cargo rails in the rear. Use the little square hook things as anchor points and it's good.

Damn, that really sucks man. Try to find an electronics place and see if they can work something out. Sometimes you have to dig deep and replace a bunch of small things instead of the whole unit. Might not be OEM, but it'll be proper and work just as great or better. Basically find a similar motor or rebuild the old one, if it's possible for either option.

2k is highway robbery all XJ'S had a dealer installed after the fact roof which means there aftermarket. I install those every day dealer cost is $900. Try calling a few of the new car dealers in your area and ask them where they sent there sunroof installs out too and give them a call

My neighbor just got a new camry. $1500 for a sunroof install, but just a few hundred to upgrade to the S model with the sunroof and tons more. Go figure that one.

If you look closely, the ridges on the roof only go so far forward. The flat area on the very front of the roof is where a sunroof would go. Not very easy to put one in, and they have a tendency to leak. Best to have it done right and use good quality parts to make sure it seals.

I have a "factory" sunroof with a full retractable shade in my 98 Sport. The switch looks aftermarket but is mounted and installed with a factory finish. It didn't work when I got it but it didn't leak. I got it to work and treated the seals, greased the tracks, etc and all was good. No leaks at all. Then it stopped working again but didn't seal up like before so I have a small leak. I really want to get it working again as it was great through the summer to open it all the way while driving or to leave it vented (popped up) when parked to keep the interior cooler. Also, just having the glass up there really brightens up the cockpit area. The switch still seems to work as I can hear it tripping a relay. I think I may need to take the headliner down and do some work on the motor assembly.

So, am I the only one left in America with a working, non leaking "factory" electric sunroof? I have found it to be great when driving slow in order (with the windows open also) to keep the air flow going in the Jeep & not wanting the a/c on (to keep the cooling system cooler).

This pic is before I updated the suspension, added rockers, and replaced the tires with brand new ones.
