Default Extra Cooling Fan

I run the beach a lot with a fish box mounted on the front of my '98 XJ 4.0, 5spd. It runs hot, around 220 on the highway, with the mechanical fan clutch engaging frequently, killing gas mileage and bogging down the engine. The auxiliary electric fan works as it should, but engine temps remain high.

I wish to add an additional electric pusher fan between the AC condenser and the front grill, directly in front of the mechanical fan to provide more cooling. Questions:

1. Is this a good idea in terms of overall cooling strategy and placement of fan?

2. Any recommendations on good electric pusher fans made specifically for this purpose?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've heard of guys using two electric fans instead of the stock set up also I have heard of people using the twin fan set up off of the Ford Taurus.
Just something to think about.

I run the beach at least 3-4 times a week and replaced the factory radiator with a 3 core all metal from the radiator barn and now have no issues with cooling. Here is a do it yourself electric fan swap link...Tj

How about a plastic/Plexiglas air dam(s), strategically located, to redirect some air (u lost from adding the box) back into the rad?????

I think high flow water pumps do more harm than good unless you do a 3 row rad upgrade with it. Just think, with a single and maybe even a 2 row rad, the coolant will be flowing more quickly through the rad, and not having as much time to cool off.

If it goes slower thru the rad to cool more, would it also go slower thru the engine and heat up more? Isn't that the purpose of a hi-flo pump?

^x2 Yes the main advantage of the FlowKooler pumps is they flow around 100% more at low rpms. Like when your crawling on doing tight trails.
