I've seen more than one "professional shop" screw up a R&P job. A lot of my customers end up bringing it to me the 2nd time around.
Here's a good way to look at it .... for the avg shop to have all the tools needed to do a R&P "quickly" ..... takes about $1000
Is it worth spending that much in tools for a few hundred in labor and (hopefully) a warranty?
Joe

hey guys thanks for the info and help on this matter. i am capable of doing this myself as a family member owns a high perf shop up here with all the tools to get er done like gear swaps and stuff, done it a few times already on trucks that see the highway alot (pullin 5th wheel trailers out of indiana to edmonton alberta) with no probs just have to set the lash properly when installing. its not hard to do but takes time to do it proper. i like the gearing in my cherokee rite now so it will be the rear that gets changed out. nothin wrong with the front so im not touchin it. i was hopin somebody with an 8.8 swaped in would have left some info but ill search still to.
thanks

Some of the best work comes from rinky dink shps.
You can't assume that big, clean bays and lots of fancy equipment means that the person hired to do the work knows WTF they are doing.
Better to ask around and talk to people to find out ....

So why didn't you ask them to get you a pair of leaf perches ?
XJs aren't the only vehicle with a 2.5 wide leaf spring.

Hey guys, I 'm going to chime in here. Anybody ask him what tires he is running or going to run? If he is running 31s or larger, the best thing to do is regear both axles. Also I didn't see wheel spacers mentioned. The 8.8 is a little narrower than the XJ axle, some spacers will bring the tires out a little.

hey guys im running 33 rite now, im sure the gearing was done already for the 33' when the jeep was built up i want to run 31 superswampers on it ant the rims on it now are pretty offset stick out 3 1/2" from factory flare but will still need spacer.
how would i know what gearing is in the 8.8? or to check the gearing in the d35? maybe i got luck and there the same?

If your gearing has been changed the only way to accurately tell is to take the cover off and count the teeth on the ring and pinion. Then divide the ring count by the pinion count. 41/10 = 4.10
