Exhaust pipe fell off, repair questions
So in my 2001 XJ, my exhaust pipe decided it was going to break off at the exhaust flange where the system is hooked up. The bolts didn't wring off or anything, the pipe itself broke inside the flange and slipped out. I tried using that exhaust tape from O'Reily's and it didn't hold. I also saw an exhaust welding putty there, I don't know how well it would hold up though. I've had a couple people tell me to use high heat JB Weld, and I have a friend with a welder, but I don't know if he'll be able to do it this week. Any suggestions on how to repair it? I can't replace the pipe or anything, I have limited time and money. Thanks in advance!

If I could use a clamp I would, but it fell off right at the collector, there's no pipe to connect the clamp to, it's like somebody cut the pipe flush to the collector, if I had a camera for a good enough picture I'd take one and post it. Getting a cat back or something like that won't fix the problem, it's right beside the front of the tranny.

I'm trying to follow this but don't understand the terms...
Ok...first exhaust connection is from exhaust manifold (or header) to exhaust pipe....second is from exhaust pipe to muffler....third is from muffler to cat....forth is from cat to tailpipe.
Where's the break?

If you are saying that you have a broken exhaust manifold....where the 6 pipes become one......that's not something that can be successfully repaired on the vehicle. It's not a hard, or expensive, repair though.
Edit: You might want to start PB Blasting and tapping on those two manifold-to-exhaust pipe bolts tonight while you're condidering what to do.
Just sayin....

No it's not the header itself, this system is pretty ****ed up in the way it was put together. The first connection is where the head and the header come together, then there's one collector at the bottom of the header, then there's a section of pipe that's about 2 feet long that goes down beside the transmission, there's a collector on the end of that pipe, that's where it broke. If you look on the bottom schematic that Turbo X_J put up, it's where 5a connects to 5, except my cat is further back and there's no muffler, so it's just pipe that connects to it. I will try to get a decent picture this afternoon if I can.
