Can anyone help me?

I have the inline 6 -4.0 liter and I have an exhaust leak under the hood it appears. You can't see what is broken or cracked or leaking.

There is way to much under the hood. I replaced the EGR valve, which was bad $92.00.

By the way the muffler had been replaced already.

Could it be an exhaust manifold or just leaking between the exhaust manifold and the and exhaust pipe?

When I close the hood it is better (more quiet).

Would be willing to bet you have a cracked manifold. Fairly common thing. Happened on my 96 and on my dads 99.
