exhaust manifold ???
hey guys i bought my xj with 180k on it and it has a pretty mean exhaust leak sounds like its at the manifold
my questions are is there anything special i need to know about about how to get it off
and also should i be concerned with the manifold itself are they known to break or warp or could it just be the gasket
i just kinda wanna know what im gettin into i know that i have to take alot of stuff off to get there just dont like suprises
thanks

Just a few bolts, the intake and exhaust manis come off together. I would say, remove it check it out, check the gasket, your best bet would be to jsut pick up a header to replace it and a good gasket.

Yeah, the OEM headers are crap. On the header, where it reduces down to the 2 tubes at the bottom where it bolts to your down pipe is where it normally cracks. Right on the welds!! Quality! Go on EBAY any look up Cherokee Exhaust Manifold. There are numerous generic after market ones on there being offered between 80-150. I got mine from EBAY and it came with the header, new manifold gasket and hardware. If you decided to do the job on your rig, start atleast a week in advance and presoak all your bolts on your intake and exhaust manifolds and the two bolts on the down pipe. If you look up my posts you will find the one I did a few months back with a write up on it. Good Luck!!

Yep they break all the time. First make sure it's not the donut leaking. A cheap way to fix the manifold is to weld it. Thats if you don't wanna put money into it. When mine broke I just thru a new header on and intake gasket. Funny thing the junk yards around my area sell the stock ones for $100 and when you purchase one they want the old one back LOL

I spent the big bucks and got the improved MOPAR header with the accordion metal in the first and last tubes.
I have not had good luck with aftermarket stuff on other vehicles. They don't fit as well and probably won't last as long (thinner metal).
This is a job that I didn't want to do over any time soon.

my APN is more than twice the beef as stock and only cost $130 at the time.
make sure you replace the motor mounts too or you WILL be doing it again.
