I have a 94 xj with an i6 that I'm trying to figure out an exhaust on right now. i have the cat with a cherry bomb can i take the cat off with out hurting anything? right now it goes almost to the rear axle which is to far to put a side exhaust which is what i wanted to do as of right now no turn down straight back towards tank is that to much heat? can i put just the cherry bomb with no cat or is that not enough back pressure and would that hurt my gas mileage?

 

Is this a trail rig or is It your dd,if it is your dd remember it is 100 percent illegal to run without it.

The cat provides back pressure, if you take it off you, would be giving it plenty of gas but not going as fast as you usually would, thus getting worse gas mileage. I did this to my 97 and my motor was screaming but wasn't going anywhere fast.

 

I am not sure how you can either,I know there has been discussion on side exhaust here in the past but if I recall most were against it because of fumes and it can be damaged easily. You might want to try a search on exhaust or side exhaust.
