That seems to be a fair test.

 

I use 93 in everything i drive except for my lawnmower and motorcycle. Its burns cleaner wich keeps your engine cleaner and you get more mpg and more power. Its only like $2 more for every 10 gallons compared to 87 so why not use it. I guess on some newer smaller engine cars it could actually burn too hot, but all my cars are the performance version of their make.

 

Sure glad I have lots of big oil company's stock........those dividend checks are nice..........and I get to hold on to more of them by using regular gas in a motor designed for regular.

 

It may not be. Ethanol percentage can vary based on manufacturer, local laws, or tons of other factors based on what the manufacturer intends the fuel to be used for. In my area, the ethanol percentage is posted on the pump... Not sure if it's the law in Illinois, but I think it is, since it's posted on all the pumps.

So, around here, I've the 87 and 89 octane both say 10% ethanol on the pumps. The 91 and 93 do not *usually*, but occasionally I see 10% on them as well. This is also the case in Missouri, as I recall.

That's what I've been going on.

 

Awesome, finally a fact, not an opinion...........but it is possible that the station just didn't place an ethanol sticker on the 91 pump(s).....just saying possible.

All I'm asking for is some info links saying that premium is all gas, no ethanol. I'm just going by what the owners manual says regarding the use of regular in the XJ (as well as our other vehicles). Link, after link, after link seems to debunk (there's that word again) premium gets better mileage, costs less in the long run, cleans better/runs cleaner or gives better performance in an engine designed for regular. I'm not saying "premium has ethanol in it", just asking for info links saying that it doesn't......I can't find any.

 

Depends on the company transporting the fuel, Just like the additives.

Oh, I totally agree with you that running regular is perfectly fine, or even optimal in an XJ.

Most sites require labeling of 1% or higher, but not all.

As to whether higher ethanol percentage causes worse gas mileage - yes, it does. It has 34 percent less energy than gasoline per gallon, which equates to about 2 to 3 miles per gallon when using a 10% ethanol blend.

Here's an article stating that the EPA and ACE both say that E10 gets 2-3% less mpg (not 2-3 mpg less) than E0. Nobody here, including me, is disputing that E10 gets less mpg than E0. I still haven't seen any info link that says premium is E0, just higher octane. One easy way to boost octane is to add ethanol.

Don't think 2-3% increase in mpg will offset $0.20/gal higher cost for premium.
