When I bought my XJ last year the evap system was a mess from the previous owner chasing an evap leak. Vacuum elbows were replaced with pieces of rubber hose bent 90 degrees. ... it was just a mess so after getting sick of chasing it for months a couple weeks ago I went to the junkyard and got all lines and elbows and it fixed the issue.

THEN I got the p0441 purge flow code. Today I poked around a little but. Disconnected the purge solenoid to see if anything was obviously out of the ordinary. While looking at it I see the work "Bottom" which was oriented towards the top. I did a search on here found a picture that showed one in it and sure enough whoever hacked this system put the solenoid on backwards.

Question is... would that have been sufficient enough problem to trip the CEL or should I expect it to come back on? Being upside down the two lines that go into it would have been switched but I would think if that were the issue the light wouldn't have been intermittent and it would have been constant.

I'm really no help Brian, just that that valve the solenoid controls just might seal 1/2 **** backwards....that might explain working sometimes, and sometimes not???
