Get an engine builders book. There are some really good ones out there that will walk you threw the whole process. It's not something you just wanna try if you never have done it before. Because it has to be assembled right or it wont hold together.

I dont know if they make a good one for jeeps but when I did my first 350 It was just a haynes 350 manual that my grandpa had lying around. You could try to search amazon or something like that to find one. HTH

find an old 4.0 that needs rebuilt (i have one for sale) and dissasemble it, then have a machine shop bore it out for u, clean the block really good and prime and paint with high temp paint, get a rebuild kit from somewhere reputible and use plenty of assembly lube and take ur time, a good torque wrench is ur freind with this, oh and make sure u chace all the threads with a tap to keep from stripping out threads

double check everything. never built a 4.0 but have built a couble 350's and a chevy strait six. check all your clearences and then double check. check all your torques specs and follow them. if your not sure find the answer before continueing. building one without the pressure of needing it asap is the smart way to do it. can take time and build it right as funds become available. take your time and double check and you'll be fine.

only warning is once you have built your motor and start it you will be hooked!!

X10 this is why i said to get a book. The one I used kept saying to check and re check which is a big thing to me. I have seen plenty of guys i went to school try to just fly threw one and they end up with a knock or throw a rod. So just take you time and double check everythign you do.
