Engine temp running hot
I just picked up my 1994 Cherokee sport and its running a little hot at idle. The fluids are all good so maybe I'm thinking the clutch fan is shot? any help is appreciated...TJ

When the engine is running hot you have a few options.. You can test the fan clutch by turning it and you should feel some slight resistance..Me I would replace the thermostat since it's a cheap and easy fix. If that doesn't resolve it and the clutch is good then start looking at other areas such as hoses, water pump, flushing and changing coolant, and temp sensor and sending unit. Also check to make sure the radiator fins are not dirty and clogged..

thanks for the fast reply, there is very slight resistance from the fan clutch so I may lean towards that but I will also the the other ideas you gave me. Thanks so much...TJ

X2 on the thermostat. If that doesn't do it, check out this thread to see my experience with a bad fan clutch to see if it matches yours. Key was checking the clutch with the engine hot.

read a TSB tonight that stated the jeep engine was notorious for trapping air in the system. one solution they mentioned was to elevate the front end when refilling the coolant. another was to refill the coolant through the heater lines instead of the radiator. hope this helps

Do you have a fan shroud around your mech fan? Its needed believe it or not.
Could be the t-stat.
Burp the system via the rear temp sensor on the back drivers side of the head. Unscrew and let it bleed.
If you do put in a t-stat...Drill hole in the flat area and mount it with the hole UP at the top of the circle. It helps it burp the air out.

OK so what I found out was that the electric fan was not kicking in at all. I'm going to work on that and post on my progress...TJ
Once again THANKS to all who helped me out.
EDIT: got the fan working with a new relay for $38.
