I have a '99 2 Dr 2.5 ax-5 231, that i want to swap to a 4.0. My aunt cracked up her '98 4.0 auto 231 and I bought it from her ins. co. for 200 bucks.
I have searched and saw a few have done the swap, but didn't find a direct answer to my main question.
Main question is, will I have to cut off the frame mounts and relocate them, or are they in the same location? The rest of the swap should be fairly straight forward I hope. Should be able to pull the harness and computer and rest of the drive train and just bolt/plug it in right?

 

The mounts are in the same location no need to worry about that. And obviosly you gotta change the wiring harness and computer. Good luck!

 

Yeah, new about that. Thing should get up and go with the 4.10's and a 4.0. Wife and kid will be happy cuz with the auto in it they can drive and wheel it.

 

Any other things I need to look out for?

 

You will have to change hoods, metal around radiator, add a piece of flat metal for the radiator to sit on and of course radiator, probably throttle cable

 

I don't think the late models are that much different. My Rad is the same as the 4.0. Just replaced it, thats how i know. Only differences I can see is motor mount location, and fan shroud. Hood and rad support stuff are the same for sure.
