engine swap

i have a 1989 xj and i was wondering if i could do a swap to a newer ho 4.0 or some tips on how to get more out of the old one because on the older ones the options are limited

Are you having problems with your old engine and why do you want to change engines. To change oil and air filters help longer life engine. Sometimes heavy oil weight.

the engine is the same , when they get newer thats when cylinder head casting changed for better hp and efficency also intake manifold change. I dont see it being a problem , only if you got a distributer less one . I belive its 98 on up someone please correct me if im wrong , i do know for sure up to 95 would be no problem . Anything is possible with the correct know how on the distributer less engine ,would be just a little more work. Stick with the 90 to 95 h.o. its a great motor

no im not having any problems with the old one but i want more horses and mainly torque i have read a lot about stroker but im not to familiar with them and the majority of the bolt ons are for 91 and up so if yall have any experience with the older type or stroker please give me advise
