I have an 86 jeep comanche 2.5L 4wd and a parts cherokee with a 4.0L in it with a fresh rebuild and i want to do an engine swap will i be able to do this swap fairly easily or is there alot of work involved? also if i put the transmission from my cherokee into my comanche will i have to shorten my drive lines?

 

First welcome to the forum and your post is a little out of place.

What year 4.0L? Should be fairly straight forward just use the XJ wiring harness. Also yes you will more than likely have to change your drive shaft lengths as it is a different setup. Also I would go ahead and use the XJ transfer case as well as it is more than likely has they 2.72 gear ratio in it. More over your 86 MJ has a disco front axle, you'll want to use the XJ axle if it is a non-disco unit. It will be a direct bolt in assuming they both have the same gear ratio in them.

 

i know this a web page for cherokee's but i have one more question about my comanche. i have a computer from an automatic can I put it in a manual? or would i have to get it flashed and reprogramed? im not much of an electronics guy yet but im workin on it! the reason im wondering is because i dont get any spark when i crank it over...
