Is your Malfunction Indicator Light on? Does it work?

Wondering if you have any Diagnostic Trouble Codes that could tell you why the engine is stalling/running rough.

He did say the check engine light was coming on and off. I guess it works. I'll bet he's got a bunch of misfire codes, among others.

That replacement head he put on there might be cracked. Or a blown head gasket. Sounds like it is burning coolant. Misfire + rapid coolant loss = It's getting into the cylinders.

The head I put on there was brand new. I checked the head gasket and it looks ok. The car is not misfiring. It runs just fine and then suddenly stalls. No rough starts or anything like that. There is currently no check engine light on but I know that it works. I just find it weird that there is nothing running through the upper radiator hose and that the radiator cap wasn't hot even though the thermostat gauge read a solid 210. Not quite sure how this is possible. I never had this problem until I changed the heater core. Any input?

Someone needs to plug into it and run a diagnostic for the engine problem.

At this point, everything is just speculation.

I think your right. Ill drive it up to advance by my house to run the code and see what it says. I'll just have to hope the engine light comes back on. I'll update you guys once I have done this.

Even if the light is off, there will be a stored code if there is a problem.

Guys, sorry I forgot to update this. But it did start blowing out lots of coolant from the exhaust and after further inspection was found that the head gasket blew. Since the motor only had 2-4psi oil pressure despite me changing pump and sensor, I've decided to just pull the motor. Its a shame since its only got 92k miles on it but the previous owner never changed the oil indicated by the 2 inches of sludge on the head (which is why I put a like-new head on it I found at the junkyard). I ordered the Titan Engines 'HP' rebuild (Upgraded cam, pistons, valves) adding 25hp. It was a $400 difference from the stock rebuild to the HP version. I also ordered a motor for a '99 not my '01 to avoid getting the 0331 head casting. After everything was said and done for the engine, and shipping from Ocala, FL to my doorstep, Virginia was $2,525.

Sorry that's what it turned out to be.

You'll have a nice Jeep when done.
