99 Cherokee Sport, 4.0L, Auto, everything stock:

Damn, 225,000 miles and cylinder #1 shows NO compression. Zip, nada, zero. All other cylinders are within 10% of each other at ~125psi.

Valve issue? Probably. Cracked head? Maybe (no bizzare white smoke out of the exhaust though). I've sunken to much $$$ cash into building her back up to let her go completly. (new tie rods, ball joints, front/rear shocks, rotors, calipers, complete new igntion components, etc, etc, etc)

So, it's time to pull the heart out of her and shoe horn a new one in.

Hopefully I can rescue this engine and/or head and slip into my 51' ******-Overland Wagon and save her engine for a spare for the 58' ****** CJ-5. At least there is some 'hope' gleaming out of this incident.

 

I picked up a 'new-used' 4.0L engine with 70k mile on 1 Nov 2011. I completed the swap last night (19 Nov 2011) and the Cherokee runs like a top! She is super peppy now; it's awesome.

Since I work 12-hour shifts, I had to pick away at the project when I could. It was a blast. Thank God I have a welder and an acetylene torch.
