Engine Rebuild?
2k as in year 2000 Jeep Sport. 116k on the clock. Sorry for the bad post. I'm preparing myself when my shop examines the motor. It started making a very faint knock or diesel sound when cold or after sitting for 20 minutes or so then driving it again. It's been a month or so and now the "knock" is quite apparent on a cold start. When I drive the Jeep the sound goes away. It is a "deep" sound and seems to come from the lower rear of the engine. When the engine warms up the sound goes away. I've had one shop 'scope it and said the sound is not coming from the engine but probably the auto trans. Tranny shop says the sound is not from the transmission. Flex plate/bolts are OK. I've read many posts on this forum and other forums. Explanation or suggestions are all over the place. Watched several YouTube videos. Piston slap? Now it's time to get an expert Jeep garage to give me the facts.
