Have you and your dad looked at the exhaust manifold (at the collector) and checked for cracks yet?

If it is cracked it can make some rather strange noises. Here's a link for a new manifold at a great price.

I run one on my 4.6L stoker.

The two things I use in a motor other than oil are Marvel Mystery Oil and if that doesn't do it, a quart of ATF4.

I have never tried the Marvel MO but I substitute a quarter of the oil volume for Kerosene or Diesel fuel. Run no more than 20 minutes and then drain. Refill with a cheap oil and run that for 20 minutes then drain and fill with the oil you intend to use.

Think it was EOS or something like that. Not sure anymore either, but then I'm old. What's your excuse?
