If its only a problematic noise at start up and idling and after it warms up a bit it goes away I am leaning toward a failing/bad wrist pin.

Default Problem is fixed !!

Hey thanks everyone for the help. Turns out it was the connecting rod bearings like I thought at first. I polished up the crank using smooth scrubbing pad like they use in the body shops. I put new bearings in and its running smooth again. Should be good for many more thousands of km !!!

I have a 92 cherokee. I just finished doing the rod bearings and the entire top end including lifters and the head compleatly rebuilt and I still get a bottom end knocking noise. It a steady constant noise that doesn't get better or worse. Iv checked everything.
Any other ideas?
