Just finished installing this gem. I'm not the brainchild who thought this up but I haven't seen it here so I figured I'd share. I came across this on another site and the little effort invested now might save a lot of needless work down the road.......

I've read about the major hassle in trying to get the liftgate open when the latch fails. This fix was simple and cheap. I used 1/16" cable with the proper ferrules ans well as a thimble that connects to the arm on the latch mechanism. Ran the cable up and through a grommeted hole I drilled/installed, looped it and ran it through the grommet again. secured with another ferrule. A key chain split ring keeps it from pulling into the panel.

Although I didn't take any pics when doing this, I did take a mock up pic for reference only so you can see where it connects to the latch. I replaced my latch as the original was in pretty bad shape....
