To start with, I have an 87 XJ with the 2.5 and AX5. My Jeep still runs perfectly cool, never gets over 200 despite having no fan shroud, worn out fan clutch, and bent blades on the fan (radiator hit the fan, bent the blades pretty bad). The fan being bent is the reason I'm looking to replace it, and I can get a factory XJ electric fan for free. So my question is, does a factory electric fan by itself move enough air to keep an XJ cool? Or should I just try to find another 2.5 XJ clutch fan in the junkyard?

 

Stock fans move a **** ton of air. Depending on how often you run it I would imagine you would be fine.

 

I would recommend at least dual stock fans. Make sure to upgrade alt.

 

I'm not sure there's room for two fans on my radiator. Do you know the dimensions of the electric fan?

The radiator in the 2.5 XJ is only roughly 16.5 x 20"
