Just bought a 1991 XJ and I'm coming across a few electrical problems. From what I understand the person who owned it before me removed the doors. Well, it has power windows, locks, and windows. In order to remove the doors he cut the wires that control all these amazing amenities. I was told all I had to do was splice the wires back together and it would be back to normal. After splicing they still don't work. Does anyone have any idea why? I also drove at night for the first time yesterday and found that the gauge lights don't work either... any relation? Any idea how to solve this? PLEASE HELP!!!

 

It is possible that some fuses were blown in the splicing process. You need to check fuses, then invest in a test light and start testing wires.

 

Check your fusible links on the starter relay. One of them is probably bad. When multiple systems don't work, that is the place to start.

 

Finally got the windows to work. 1 out of 36 wires wasn't connected right. Automatic door locks still don't work, but I'm not too worried about those. Can't figure out the problem behind the gauge lights either, I think I'm going to have to take it in for that.
