you my friend have a dead short, thats why it dies when you put a high amp fuse in. its overloading your alternator. and it sounds like you lost your flasher relay for the turn signals.(seperate from hazard relay) somewhere you have a hot directly contacting ground or the other way around.

Bump for a similar problem....

actually, it is the exact same problem.

My 7.5 amp fuse location in my block looks toasted on one end of the connection.,., Looks like whomever owned it before me was a real shadetree wanna be and screwed everything up.

I have seen that my ground from my battery to the block has a cut in it and I need to replace it, I am getting the cable tomorrow from work (O'reilly's) and I plan on going from there.

Other than that my dash lights do not work at all, my tails will not light up when the lights are turned on and well sometimes my blinkers will tick on my dash and sometimes it doesn't....

What should I do if the ground doesn't work???

Thanks for any helps guys,,, I have plans on this heep getting some major work done and I am trying to eliminate all the small bugs and this is a major hurdle for me right now... I have already replace an alternator and battery once, I don't want to do it again!

Thanks again,

JOsh

Reach behind the dash and feel the top of the headlight switch, there is a small button on top of it! push that button down and pull out on the ****. the button will push in a bit more and the **** will pull out of the switch all the way. now remove the ring that is on the face of the mount, you can use needle nose pliers to remove the ring if it is not a nut!

The standard fare applies---- check all grounds, there are 4 or 5 on the pass. side of the block on mine, but its a 91 ho. I ran into gauge problems that were caused by 1 of them. I spent wayyyyy to much time taking my dash apart and tracing all of the wires.......Turns out that the ground for my gauges is in that group of wires that attach to the block. They are right by the dipstick(on mine) If yours are not there check with blue xj, he is the man to ask about renix era cherokees! I hope this helps - if not keep posting Somebody out there has an answer for you.

Good! according to blue xj, the renix era 4.0 is very touchy when there are ground problems. Check his posts-- he has an answer for just about any problem regarding your year. Seems to be a hell of a guy,i don't know him but he sure has the knowledge!

Okay here goes as far as what I did tonight....

Okay so I began to take off my battery ground tonight and I have run into another little problem.

The bolt or stud rather, that the grounding strap was connected to is twisting with the wires connected to the stud for grounding purposes.

I have ground off (literally) the out negative cable and measured for the new one,.,. The problem I have now is that there are five wires (four are piggy backed into two connections) and I cannot get them to stop twisting with the stud on the block.

Does anybody know what these go to?? I was thinking I could just cut them off and re-splice them on but I don't want to go hacking into wires like the previous owner and leave a mess.

any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

Josh..

P.S. - I was able to get rid of a pile of wire that was connected to the old towing harness. The moran (i'll tell you what a moran is if you want) that did it before actually routed the wire through the exhaust hanger at the rear of the heep...

This is beginning to become exhausting...

I am gonna try to upload a picture of the area I am talking about.

Cut them off, and find a new spot for them! They are not properly grounded where they are, Splice on more wire if needed-make sure that you ground them to the block as at least one of them grounds part of the inst. cluster by what iv'e had to deal with...I would solder all terms. since this area sees water, oil and you don't want to do this again any sooner than you have to
