Default Electrical Problems

Been having some major troubles with electrical work, and can't seem to find the cause if anyone could help that would be great. (I drive a 1996 cherokee) So I was accelerating and the car died mid acceleration, rpms were gone, but everything still worked fine (like lights, speedometer, etc). The "gen" light came on but it's a brand new alternator so I don't believe it's that, looked at the the power distribution box and sure enough a 30 amp fuse had blown. Upon researching this, it appears to have been a tcm/pcm fuse. I replaced it, and now the car won't start. It cranks over and sounds like it's trying but won't. All the other fuses are intact, however there are some random wires throughout the engine bay. I figured this was just some rerouting because the car has always run good before. I just don't know what to look for next.

The fuse "blows" when the current carried exceeds the rated value for an excessive time. If a circuit is overloaded, meaning beyond the preset amount of amps labeled on the fuse, the fuse blows(or opens the circuit) to protect the wires from breaking down and burning. ... Electrical shorts also cause fuse failure. I would suggest looking at all the wiring and inspect for chaffing of insulation, a discolored area. Look at your wiring connectors, ones excessively dirty or discolored you may want to take apart and clean them. (dielectric grease does not conduct electricity, so don't smear it all over the contacts) Also check your battery cables for corrosion under the insulation, the battery connections are clean and tight. Find all your ground points and remove them, clean them and reattach.

this may take care of your issue.
Hope this helps

Ok so I did inspect all the wiring, cleaned all the grounds I could see (around the engine bay on the inside of panels and a few bolted to the block) I also took off the battery terminals, cleaned put new protection around them. Still no luck starting it however....

ok, with that out of the way....
Basics.....engine needs fuel, air, spark ....
suggest testing for spark, then testing for fuel.
Make sure your fuel pressure is in spec...
make sure you have spark from the coil and from the distributor.

just as a note....Jeeps really hate non Mopar sensors....I would put back the original CPS since the new one didn't resolve the issue.

If you have spark, have someone try to start the vehicle and spray some starter fluid in the throttle body to see if it tries to kick over.

Would indicate fuel problem....

Doing more testing than part swapping at this point will save you a bunch in the long run.
