You just blew a fuse. On my 94 it is in the 9 spot under the driver's side dash. Yours might be different, but just pull one fuse at a time (then put it back in the same spot) until you find the blown one, then replace. Mine was a red 10

Your Instrument panel lights are on a circuit of their own. You have a problem with this circuit. Check your fuses for your instrument panel lights. If that is good, pull the **** on for your parking and headlights. Turning this **** gives you a dimmer/brighter function for your instrument panel lights. It is common for this dimmer switch to go bad. When it does, your dash lights sometimes quit working. If this dimmer switch is the problem, then you need to replace your light switch assembly. If none of this pans out then somebody was probably monkeying around with stereo wiring or something else inside the dash and has shorted the circuit.
my issue just haapened 10 minutes ago. i just noticed that my automatic shifter indicator lights werent working, i looked under the panel at the light and then all of a suddeb the 4 wheel shift indicator lights flickered then i lost the instrument panel lights as well as the 4wheel selector lights. i had my headlights on high and the blue indicator was still showing. any ideas or do i just check each and every fuse? i have a 89 xj 4.0 4x4
