My "Gen" light is on and my battery gauge is in the bottom red zone for a while when I start the vehicle (1996 Cherokee Country). After a few miles the light goes off, the gauges light up much brighter, and the battery gauge goes back up to normal.

Any idea of what is going on? Thanks!

 

Test to see how strong your battery is. Take it to an auto parts store and they'll be able to run this test for you. Sounds like you need a new one though
