Default Electrical issues with gauge cluster and 4WD

I'm having multiple electrical issues with my 97 Jeep Cherokee. Just up in one day, all the gauges quit working in the instrument panel. As well as radio, overhead dome light and 4wd stick light. I have removed the gauge cluster multiple times to find all wires in tack with good connections. One other issues is that if the jeep is in 2wd, the motor runs rough. But as soon as you engage it in 4WD high or low it runs smooth. Which if you disconnect the 4wd light indicator switch on the transfer case it will start to run rough as again. So either there is a short on 4WD switch or it has to something with the Instrument panel issue?

Please let me know if anyone has a solution to all these problems!

Thanks

Looks like something is corrupting the PCM bus.
Did both the cluster and 4wd issues happen at the same time?
Any CEL codes?

I'd check the easy usual suspects first.
Dome light and radio not working should be a clue.
Fuse check?
Grounds?
Wiring/connectors at TCase switch or the switch itself.
If you have remote entry, try disconnecting its printed circuit board located in the dome light area. It communicates with the PCM and have been known to go bad.

Moparado thats what i was thinking. Thanks for the reply.

I have checked the fuse panel and both fuse 6 and 16 have no power when the ignition is off or on?

Looks to me that all the grounds are attached under the hood unless im missing something.

Changed the 4WD indicator switch on the transfer case yesterday and nothing changed, its still running rough in 4WD.

i don't have remote entry, everything is Manual on my jeep.

I will have to check the codes when i get home.

I think both issues started at the same time. i just bought this from my cousin, which he said these issues happened a year ago. So he has just been running it in 4WD all the time.

You got a smorgasbord of CEL codes there.

I'd tackle them one by one, some may even be related.

Start with the O2 CEL codes - important.
The PCM needs O2 sensor information or the engine will not run properly and might even corrupt the bus depending on the condition of the O2 cables.
Are the O2 sensor cable/connectors still intact or were they cut off or something.

You might want to think hard about installing a cat and the O2 sensors.
If you have the one cat system, its not that big of a deal but will cost some bucks.
I'd guess maybe somewhere around a few hundred if you have a muffler shop do the work.

After thats done, clear all the CEL codes and see what one's are left.

Next time, just write down the codes instead of posting huge bandwidth-wasting pictures.

Yes, you are missing something huge. 'Looking attached' means nothing. You have no idea if they are any good or not. Take them apart and clean them up. See my sig, #1.

I replaced the 4wd indicator light sensor on the T-CASE which fixed the rough idle in 2WD.
I found one disconnected ground that was supposed to be connected to the block. So i connected that directly to the battery and now the light next to the 4wd/2wd selector stick is lite back up. But the instrument panel is still not working.

As far as the O2 sensors go. The one closest to the motor is still plugged in. The second one has be removed and unplugged. I also have no CAT. It is the one CAT system.

I will go through and clean all the Ground connections today.

Thank yall for all the help
Sorry about the photos

That Jeep will run a hell of a lot better if you install a cat, replace the front O2 sensor with a new one and install the missing O2 sensor with a new one.
You do realize its illegal to run a '97 vehicle without a cat.
What are the CEL codes now after clearing the previous ones?

Yes i do realize this is illegal. This jeep is not going on the road. Im using this for a deer lease buggy.

Same codes still pop up after clear them.
