Default electrical issue i think... pls help.

sometimes when i start my jeep the airbag and abs light comes on and my power windows won't work, but when i shut it back off and start it its all working. does this occasionally but little more recently. what could this be? i recently did the window lock trick because you couldn't roll the windows down at the door switches unless i operated them. what i did is tap the tan and yellow wire at drivers kick panel. i learned this from a post on here. would that have caused this? anyone else have this problem?

You might have an ignition switch problem. It would help if you included what year your XJ is.

Do your gauges ever stop working? Might try tapping on the instrument cluster with your fist and see if the airbag/abs lights start working properly. Bad cluster connections are fairly common.

but if its a bad cluster issue, will that effect the pwr windows too? i almost feel the same as busted back... may be the ignition. just hoping someone has had the same issue on here. maybe ill try replacing the ignition first. thanks for the help y'all.

Did you have these problems before you worked on the window wiring?

The first thing to consider in performing root cause analysis is to ask the question 'What changed'.

Hey did you figure this out yet? If so, what did you do? I have the same exact issue. It happened after I got my ignition replaced due to someone trying to steal my xj. I have a 2000 cherokee classic. Also have the sentry key.

I have the exact same issue except my door locks only work intermittently as well.

1998 Cherokee 4.0L 4x4 Sport, 3" lift but otherwise bone stock with 117,000 miles
Front passenger door power window does not work about 75% of the time
Door locks inop 75% of the time (yet relays still click inside pass. door)
airbag light comes on about 50% of the time

When the front passenger power window works, the door locks also work. I am glad to see that I am not the only one with the problem but I sure wish I could figure it out.

the issue stopped...hmmm. but honestly, i believe it was the ignition issue. i have two keys for my jeep. one for the doors and one for the ignition. im sure its been replaced at one time. good luck to the rest of yall. Tobtech, maybe its your main switch assembly on the drivers side. just a guess.

this may not be the case but i would take the door panneling off to get to the back side of your switches and make sure they are all the way on... i noticed when i took mine off to get to the speaker (love the front wiring... ugh) and when i put it all back together my locks and windows didnt work. i spent a few hours trying to figure it out then felt stupid after i pused the trminals snug and they all worked again.
