Default Electrical Issue

Hi all. I have a 2000 XJ. A few months ago, I decided to replace my heater core, which had gone bad. Upon reassembly I’ve run into electrical issues.

Dash goes crazy, blinkers and other lights were intermittently. Starts intermittently.

I believe I narrowed it down partially to the headlight switch. When I click it in and out of position, the electrical issues seem to get better.

The ground on the headlight switch has voltage. I’m guessing while removing and reinstalling the dash I broke a wire somewhere and now have a short.

Any advice? I’m currently looking for a short but no luck.

On further review the entire dash seems to have voltage along the various ground points.

Going through the fuses under the hood.

15A IOD
IGN RUN/START 40A
IGN ACC/RUN 40A

All of the above supply voltage to the short.
removing one at a time lowers the short voltage, and with all three completely removed I get zero voltage to the grounds on the dash.

I'm guessing you missed reconnecting a ground. There should be one on the drivers side. https://cruiser54.com/?p=110

I appreciate it, but none of the grounds were ever disconnected. I was able to just unbolt the dash and pull it back to get the heater core in, never fully removed the dash.
