Default Electric fan

What conditions should cause the electric fan to come on for an 01 xj. Its hot out and havnt heard mine come on lately. I tested it straight off the battery so I know it works. No overheating issues, just want it to work when it's supposed to.

It comes on at about 218 degrees F. Some people mount a fan by-pass switch so they can get it to come on earlier(helps with heat-soak problem)
