Question Electric cooling fan issues

Greetings fellow jeepers!

My 98xj is running HOT 220 deg. in realativly cool weather [80s t0 mid 90s] I started checking my cooling system and noted that the electric fan was not coming on it came on only when the a/c was turned on which was what I expected I checked relays they appear to be functioning as they should, when I started checking the connectors and pulled off the plug for the temp sending unit the fan immediatly started running should this happen?

If any of you have had this issue please let me know what causes this and what was done to correct it or is this even an issue at all?

any insight into this would be appretiated.

Thanx. JD

1st thing I'd suspect is a bad fan clutch (on the belt driven fan). The efan coming on, when the sensor is unplugged, is normal and a safety feature. The ECM turns the fan on at 218 F....u need to verify coolant temp with a point-n-shoot infrared temp gun aimed at the t-stat cover.
