Default EGR or what is it?

Hey guys

I’m looking into the vacuum hoses after cleaning the throttle body on my 1990 renix xj.

on the side of the throttle body there are two ports with a rubber grommet. The small one is connected via a vacuum line to the map sensor (?) by the fire wall but the other one is not connected. This one is supposed to connect to the charcoal purge port?

also- I found this connector or whatever it is by the exhaust near the front wheel driver side. What is it and are these things connected? Seems like someone have been porting some stuff on the jeep so need to figure it out.

If you mean the 2 holes stacked vertically, then NO. The second hole is meant to retain a rubber plug which is part of the MAP sensor vacuum line. This keep the line secured to the throttle body. If you MAP line won't stay in place or seated, there is a better fix. https://cruiser54.com/?p=280

That looks like a block heater. In really cold climates, you can "plug in" your XJ to keep the block from freezing.

ok got it thanks! My rubber plug is a dual plug for both vertical holes. The smaller one keeps the vacuum line in place but the other, bigger hole is just open. Chat gpt told me it was supposed to connect to the charcoal canister purge port, which is plugged in my case. I don’t approve much of the chat gpt intel although the attitude always very confident and positive, making it even more annoying, so I’d rather have some real humans suggestions. Is the purge port supposed to be plugged btw?
Block heater is amazing though!

The bottom hole goes through the throttle body to provide vacuum to the MAP sensor. The top hole is a "blind" hole to help retain the vacuum line. when using the OEM vacuum line. It does not connect to anything else. If you do the "Cruiser54" fix, you just leave it empty.

The canister is connected to the fuel tank and the outlet of the air cleaner cover There's a venturi in the end that creates a small vacuum to draw gas fumes from the canister into the intake.

For your '90 Renix XJ: That larger throttle body port should hook to the charcoal canister purge line if it's open, you're leaking vacuum. The connector by the driver's side wheel is probably for the O2 sensor. Check if those wires are intact - if they're cut or dangling, that could be causing issues. Definitely grab a vacuum diagram (try CherokeeForum) since someone's been messing with things. Look for other open ports or loose lines around the canister too. Renix systems are fussy even small vacuum leaks cause big problems.

Ah ok some mixes messages then!
I’ll hunt down a vacuum schematic for a Renix. What I could read from cruisers site and the comments the bigger hole in the Tb should remain open and doesn’t do anything?

So I went on a little hunt and I think I get two answers on what to do with my bigger top hole on my renix throttle body. I am still confused whether as there should be a line here, and what to do with my plugged purge port on my evap canister. Help!

Cruisers diagram- from the FSM- only one line from throttle body, goes to the map sensor

Another source, simple version

Another diagram from another source. Final boss level diagram I am a bit lost here I must say

Missing Small ”Purge” orifice should go to fuel tank as per Cruisers diagram?

Only the first diagram applies to Renix. Forget the other 2. There's no connection to the "purge" port anywhere. Only the lower hole in the TB is connected to the MAP sensor. Leave the other one alone if you do the Cruiser54 mod.. The hoses on the EGR solenoid are correct although one of the lines look broken.
